Melissa Rivers Statement re: Lawsuit Filing

“Filing this lawsuit was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever had to make. What ultimately guided me was my unwavering belief that no family should ever have to go through what my mother, Cooper and I have been through. The level of medical mismanagement, incompetency, disrespect and outrageous behavior is shocking and frankly, almost incomprehensible. Not only did my mother deserve better, every patient deserves better. It is my goal to make sure that this kind of horrific medical treatment never happens to anyone again.”

  1. Melissa,
I simply could not agree with you more. Your eloquent statement was spot on. No one should ever endure such tragedy under those circumstances.

  2. 100% !!! Melissa ..
.PLEASE INVESTIGATE EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY!!!
Settle for NO LESS THAN THE WHOLE TRUTH! JUSTICE for Cooper!

  3. With you all the way, Melissa. I am so sad and appalled at the stupefying stupidity of everyone in that room that horrible day. Your mom had so much gas in her tank. It’s so wrong. I miss your mom a lot and I’m sure always will. What a force of nature. And now because the doctors who she probably liked and trusted showed their true and vicious colors, she’s gone from us. SHAME SHAME to everyone in that room.

  4. Melissa:
You are doing the right thing! We all miss Joan VERY much.
There is no reason we should ever have lost her. Keep the memories alive.

  5. Melissa,
I loved your mother. I’m so sorry what happened to your family as well as to my wonderful neighbor in May. She went into a surgi-center (owned by the surgeon) to have a knee replacement. She came out of the surgery fine but when they stood her up, she had a blood clot that went to her brain and killed her. I miss her terribly and as you, wish this kind of poor treatment on no one. I hope you get them for every cent and use it to close down these places that are not equipped to handle emergency situations. Good luck—I will be keeping up with you.
    Love to you,

  6. I agree..they should have been much more responsible..heartbreaking. .my thoughts r with u and cooper..

  7. Melissa, I met your mother back in 1980 when I was a student at Miami Dade Community College. She came in to our classroom as a guest speaker, and what fun we had. Have always been a fan, even when at times, I think she went a little far with her material lately. Nevertheless, what happened at that place, the things that we heard happened are just reprehensible, if true. You have every right to know exactly what happened and I support you. God Bless.

  8. I’m absolutely behind you and Cooper..I loved your mom and I saw her on last night celebrity apprentice she was truly an amazing person.

  9. I totally agree, and well explained . I am sorry to say this but I think that the so called medical facility treated Ms. Joan Rivers as an object of curiosity rather than a human being, and thus dropped their professionalism, and required medical standards. This wonderful woman trusted them and they failed her , and not only did they destroy her family but also broke the hearts of thousands upon thousands! Being a fan of Joan Rivers for over 30 years I think she would probably agree and even encourage this lawsuit, go for it, and regardless of all the troubles , it’s the right thing to do. I’m sure fans of Joan and her beloved family are on board, Melissa you’re not alone, of course there is the strong family bonds and friendships you’re blessed with, but the best wishes and good thoughts of your fans will translate into good karma your way…good luck!

  10. Cheery nailed it. With you 1000 percent. I’m brokenhearted. Never met Joan but nevertheless, I adored her.
