“Look what I found while cleaning out our storage!”
News about Joan’s New York apartment going on the market has been all over the media. In a recent article in The Wall Street Journal, Melissa talks about her reasons for selling it and about five of her mother’s favorite things in the apartment, including where they came from and what they meant.
About the stool pictured above, Melissa says:
“Mom always sat on this baroque-style foot stool in the library when she was on the phone or in meetings. Sitting on the stool was her way of strengthening her posture, which was extremely important to her. Half my life I was told not to slouch. Mom, on the other hand, could fall asleep sitting.”
Los Angeles street artist Keith Biele (aka “Teacher”) created a series of tributes to Joan, which can be seen on streets around L.A. In addition to some snapshots of his work below, here is a video of Keith creating one of his stencil portraits. (Notice what he’s listening to on YouTube for inspiration!)
Congratulations to Joan, Penguin Books/Audio and everyone on #TeamJoan!!! Joan won the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for the audiobook recording of Diary of a Mad Diva at the 57th GRAMMY Awards Premiere Ceremony on Feb. 8, 2015, in Los Angeles.
